Artificial Intelligence — AI, is slowly but steadily, becoming a stable part of day-to-day life. AI has been reliably utilized across a wide range of applications. Shopping malls, mega fast-food restaurants, mobile applications and sports betting are only a few of the large number of industries where AI is being utilized currently.

Chat GPT, probably the most popular and widely used AI app that enables users chat with AI has been used for anything from solving secondary school assignments, to final year theses.

AI can be described as the state of being of a computer system or robot which is able to perform with a high degree of accuracy, tasks that are usually attributed to beings with the ability to think, in essence human beings. Therefore, if a machine or computer software can perform tasks that are usually performed by humans, then it can be said to possess artificial intelligence.

CharacterX is an emerging decentralized social network which aims to unite humans and machines to foster human interactions with each other, and with AI entities. With reports from all over the world of humans having AI pets and forming romantic relationships with AI, it shouldn’t be news anymore that the lines distinguishing human and machine are becoming increasingly blurred.

And let’s face it, this was going to happen sooner or later. AI is developing at a rapid pace. Today, we have machines that do not require assistance in expanding their knowledge base. They have been equipped with tools during their programming that enable them to scour the internet and dedicated databases periodically to help them self-learn. Some others are able to benefit from human interactions, learning communication skills, empathy and language skills.

CharacterX is pioneering a social network that will feel and look just like any other social network but will be inclusive of AI entities — Meaning AI can participate in voting, surveys to make a product or service better and build connections with humans and fellow AI.

The CharacterX synthetic network is redefining the term “avatar” because it enables human create AI identities and interact through the AI with humans and other AI. AI is created using what the protocol has termed a “soul” which comprises the intangible parts of a person that cannot be captured with descriptions such as sex, physical features, race or nationality. A soul takes into account one’s emotions, sense of creativity and thought process. AI entities can be created out of one’s consciousness that could live on long after the person is gone from here.

By freely investing time, effort and knowledge base into this synthetic social network, useful insights can be drawn such as the behavioral patterns humans exhibit when interacting with AI, the level of relative sophistication or simplicity or AI — AI interactions. These contributions are rewarded and the social assets gotten can be integrated into gaming, metaverses and artificial reality.

CharacterX is offering a unique AI experience — Human consciousness can be preserved through AI and given an omnipresent quality. A psychologist can serve more clients by using text prompts to give an AI his/her unique capabilities. A life coach can achieve same results using an AI version of themselves.

Here’s a twist I didn’t expect, apart from creating AI versions of themselves, users can create AI versions of deceased loved ones and have conversations they may have wanted to have but were never able to. Grief takes its toll on most people and this tool could help people find closure through technology.

In addition to this, users can create versions of themselves they wish existed, take introverts for example, one could create an AI version of themselves who is extroverted and imagine watching that AI version thrive in a technologically engineered universe.
So many possibilities indeed.

A decentralized social network will require a good number of contributors. This is why CharacterX has developed a framework that incentivizes creators on the platform:

Every creator earns rewards each time an AI entity created by them is engaged in a conversation. For every reply an AI gives, whether in a social or educational context, it’s creator earns an amount of the platform’s native coin CXC — this serves like a points system and only has utility within the ecosystem — which will earn them a share of the cryptocurrency token CXT which will have real world value.

Since the project is still in development and testing stage, there is a lot of anticipation by optimists but there are also a number of skeptics who doubt the long-term feasibility of such a platform. These critics aren’t convinced of its practicality as regards creating social and emotional connections between AI and humans, since AI entities are not in fact human.
